Joe Joyce returned to the ring with a win over Christian Hammer.
Joe Joyce provided a timely reminder that he’s a significant threat in the heavyweight division as he bludgeoned Christian Hammer in four rounds.
Inactive for almost a year, the 2016 Olympic silver medallist wanted to prove a point, and he did that by dropping the German veteran four times before the bout was halted in the fourth session.
During the first round, there were some concerns in Joyce’s corner as he failed to defend himself against Hammer’s onslaught. The 34-year-old visitor wasn’t fancied to do much against Joyce, but he gave a solid account of himself in the first round as he continually landed right hands on Joyce’s granite chin.
In the third stanza, Joyce began to take over, and although the bout was less than ten minutes old, Hammer was visibly feeling the pace as he chose to rest on the ropes. However, after being dropped at the end of the third round, the writing was on the wall for Hammer, and after hitting the floor three times in the following round, the bout was called off.
Highly ranked with the WBO, Joyce is surely next in line for the winner of Oleksandr Usyk’s rematch with Anthony Joshua. An all-British showdown with Tyson Fury could also be a possibility. Joyce has worked himself into a superb position in the rankings, and now is the time for the unbeaten star to capitalise on his rating.

Joe Joyce is on his way towards a world title shot after stopping Christian Hammer in four rounds. Joyce made a sloppy start, but once he was in control, he dropped Hammer four times before the bout was called off.
Joyce is taking over. Renowned for his energy, the 2016 Olympian hasn't stopped throwing punches in round three, and he's making Hammer slow down. The German is dropped at the end of round three, but he beats the count. 10-8 Joyce
Zolani Tete reminded people just how dangerous he is with a stunning fourth-round stoppage against Jason Cunningham. The latter had been riding an excellent wave with some impressive wins in recent times, but that counted for nothing as Tete dominated from the outset. The former world champion dropped Cunningham at the start of round four, and he wasted no time in securing the victory with a follow-up attack.
Mark Chamberlain was very impressive as he threw the kitchen sink at Spain's Marc Vidal. Capturing minor IBF honours, Chamberlain registered the best win of his career as he took control of the bout before dominating Vidal down the stretch. All three judges gave Chamberlain every round, and the man from Portsmouth can be happy with his performance.
Tommy Fletcher wasted no time in making a big statement on his pro debut. Fletcher was intent on causing damage from the first bell, and Aron Gregorio had no answer to his power. After going down twice, the referee made the right call and ended the contest.
Mickey Burke was expected to receive a decent test by Serge Ambomo, and that examination was provided as the experienced journeyman gave the unbeaten prospect a rough night. Burke's defence was sloppy throughout. He allowed Ambomo to land shots frequently, but the Bexley man did have some good moments, and that was enough to give him the verdict. Victor Loughlin scored the bout a ridiculous 60-55 in Burke's favour. A harsh reflection on Ambomo's work.
Henry Turner enjoyed six routine rounds against Jakub Laskowski as he continued his education. The London southpaw rarely got out of first gear as he used various attacks to land multiple scoring shots. It's evident that Turner needs to step up, and hopefully, he gets a sterner test next time. Turner took every round on the referee's scorecard to win 60-54.
