Anderson Silva received a ton of props for beating a Mexican former world boxing champion in Mexico.

Anderson Silva's deserved decision win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at the 'Tribute To The Kings' event on Saturday led to a wide range of congratulatory tweets from around fight sports Twitter.

One of the most interesting of those tweets came via Jake Paul, the controversial YouTube star who has begun a professional boxing journey with a 3-0 record over fellow outsider rookies such as streamer AnEsonGib, basketballer Nate Robinson and UFC grappler Ben Askren.

"Respect to Anderson Silva on the win," said Paul. "Would be an honor to have him vs. Roy Jones Jr. on the same card as Tyron and I."

Paul faces former UFC champion Tyron Woodley on Aug. 28, as the interest levels in seeing less experienced boxers from various walks of life face off with one another continues to grow.

It's not known how many more times Silva, 46, will box after a long hall-of-fame UFC career, but his assured showing against Chavez Jr., featuring plenty of his trademark showmanship, means it is likely he will return. But the Jones links stem from his long-standing hopes of facing the boxing luminary, which were never able to get over the finish line in the past.

Jones Jr. famously had an exhibition with Mike Tyson last November which really kicked the trend into high gear due to its success and mainstream appeal.

Silva's old Octagon rival Chris Weidman was also hugely impressed by what he saw.
