MMA athlete Cris Cyborg wants to make a move into boxing and is interested in fighting unified lightweight champion Katie Taylor.

Bellator fighter Cris Cyborg is keen for a switch to boxing and has her eyes set on a fight with lightweight champion Katie Taylor.

Taylor is the unified division champion, and Cyborg is aiming her sights to the top.

Cyborg’s next fight is to defend her world heavyweight title against Arlene Biancowe on Thursday.

However, speaking to Sky Sports, she suggested that she could soon make a move to a new discipline.

"I like to have challenges. And I really want a boxing fight," Cyborg said.

"I really like boxing. I've tried wrestling, I've tried jiu jitsu, I've tried Muay Thai. Always when you compete in a separate sport like this, you learn a lot. I love challenges. I've got Arlene Blencowe next in MMA, but if we can do the [Taylor] fight, it will be amazing."

Cyborg is far from boxing novice. She has spent years using the sport to improve her combinations and punching skills.

"Before I was doing lot of boxing sparring. I was sparring pro boxer Raquel Miller,” she explained.

“I was thinking I was going to do boxing and then we were told it was MMA, so we went back to working on that.

"For me it's easy to separate. I really don't have to think too much. When I'm boxing I'm focused on boxing and I don't try to kick an opponent or anything."

Taylor has also spoken of fighting Cyborg in the past, and the Brazilian-American said the onus would be on the 34-year-old Irish fighter to choose the weight class.

"I walk around at 170 and fight at 145. I guess in boxing it would be 147, but I don't know. She's calling me out, she'll have to pick a weight," Cyborg said.
