Jamel Herring has said he will quit boxing after losing to Jamaine Ortiz on Saturday night.
Herring lost in October to Shakur Stevenson to give up his WBO junior lightweight championship with last night’s fight an attempted comeback.
The 36-year-old suffered a unanimous decision defeat (97-93 97-93 96-94) to Ortiz, who maintained his unbeaten record.

After two consecutive defeats, Herring tweeted:
"I appreciate everything. Thank you all. It's time to move on and enjoy more time with my family.
"I love this sport, but I owe it to my family to quit putting them through these moments.
"Thank you all, whether you were with or against me, you made me who I am, but it's time."

Herring defeated Carl Frampton in March 2021 to win the WBO belt, but his first title defence ended in a loss, and he has now called time on his career:
"After tonight," Herring explained, "I just don't think I'm where I need to be, especially to fight at an elite level anymore."
