The Los Angeles Rams may have tipped their hand about their approach and priorities in free agency and the 2026 NFL Draft.

Speaking during his video conference yesterday, general manager Les Snead discussed how Los Angeles intends to approach the offseason.

It wasn’t presented as a grand strategy. Nothing he said is at odds with what we expected them to do. All the same, given their glaring needs, it was intriguing to hear him spell it out so clearly.

Here's what Snead said, and how we're reading the tea leaves.

Snead's philosophy

"Our macro philosophy is, if we can use free agency to not be desperate in the draft, we more than likely will be better drafters," Snead explained.

"Because we're not reaching, we're not desperate. We're not going in there with a major void major [and] hole that has to be filled."

In 2025, the Rams were a handful of players away from competing in the Super Bowl.

Cornerback help?

Already one of their biggest needs, cornerback becomes even more of a focus with up to four starters set to become free agents next week.

Snead suggested the team are "working through those scenarios", but added they are not averse to allowing those players to test the market.

If Snead truly wants to go into the Draft without desperate needs, all signs point to the idea that the Rams will add help at the position via free agency.

Possible solutions in free agency

Stafford is returning, of course, but with the veteran in the latter stages of his career, it makes sense to capitalise by adding a corner who can hit the ground running.

That potentially opens the door to signing a talent like Jamel Dean, who ranked among the top-five corners for the Buccaneers last year, or Trent McDuffie, whom they would need to acquire in a trade.

Failing that, pending free agents Jaylen Watson, Mike Hilton, or Asante Samuel could come into play.

Cap space gives Rams options

The challenge comes in finding a way to sign such players while bearing in mind that Puka Nacua, Byron Young, Kobie Turner, and Omar Speights have become eligible for extensions.

But with more than $42 million in cap space, Los Angeles has the ammunition to address both situations.

With free agency opening on March 11, we won't have to wait long to see how this situation plays out.
