Alycia Baumgardner vs. Leila Beaudoin: Who has the edge heading into their fight?

DAZN
Ultimate Tier: PPVs & 185 fight nights included

Alycia Baumgardner used the Katie Taylor-Amanda Serrano trilogy stage at Madison Square Garden to deliver an electric Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) debut this past summer.

Now, the unified IBF, WBO and WBA super featherweight world champion will look to end her 2025 with an exclamation point on Friday night when she puts her titles on the line against Leila Beaudoin at Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida. The bout will be in chief support to the Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua main event.

In her first fight under the MVP banner, Baumgardner (16-1, 7 KOs) produced a unanimous decision win over Jennifer Miranda in July. She now faces Canadian fighter Beaudoin (13-1, 2 KOs) who delivered a TKO over Elhem Mekhaled in June.

Will Baumgardner defend her titles in style once again? Or will Beaudoin pull off the grand upset? With the stakes high, DAZN News considers who has the edge heading into Friday night’s bout.

Boxing Styles

Fighting on the biggest stage of her career this past summer, Alycia Baumgardner showcased her deep bag of boxing skills. Not only can the unified super featherweight world champion work behind an educated jab with masterful sweet science generalship, but she can also step into the pocket and unleash a tenacious inside fighting game. Jennifer Miranda found both to be true, treated to a doubling up of the jabs, piercing uppercuts to split the guard and hooks around it.

Quite simply, ‘The Bomb’ has it all.

That is the total package that Leila Beaudoin will have to contend with as she challenges for the titles.

Beaudoin stalks forward effectively and has a right hook that she sits on well, leveraging maximum impact with each detonation.

Whether she has the all-around sweet science skills to keep up with the champion remains to be seen, though.

Power

Where Beaudoin’s power is more pounding and blunt, Baumgardner’s is more pouncing and scraping.

The champ’s punching power is only enhanced by her speed, accuracy and timing.

She counts nearly half her wins by knockout and a dazzling power display on Friday night would only catapult Baumgardner toward an alluring 2026.

Mental Warfare

Jake Paul made sure to call Baumgardner the future of women’s boxing — a title ‘The Bomb’ fully embraces.

Baumgardner’s outspoken confidence is met by Beaudoin’s quiet storm as the challenger said during the press conference “I believe in myself, I know my worth.”

Their confidence aside, Baumgardner’s experience marks the push here as the champion has fought the world-class likes of Delfine Persoon, Christina Linardatou twice, Mikaela Mayer and Terri Harper to name a few.

Who has the edge in Baumgardner vs. Beaudoin?

The fact that Beaudoin registered a sixth-round TKO of the same Elhem Mekhaled common opponent that Baumgardner needed the distance to outpoint is intriguing.

However, Baumgardner’s abundance of sweet science skills has DAZN News giving ‘The Bomb’ a 3-0 edge entering this super featherweight world championship bout.
