Chris Eubank Jr hit with another fine after Conor Benn grudge match victory
Chris Eubank Jr has been fined £10,000 by the British Boxing Board of Control's (BBBofC) Southern Area Council.
The fine is a result of a breach of regulation 25, relating to misconduct, for a misuse of social media.
The Brit was initially supposed to appear in front of the BBBofC for the alleged use of a sauna in his weight-cut for the Conor Benn fight in April, as seen by footage he posted to his social media afterwards.
Eubank Jr was contracted to weigh in at 160lbs the day before the fight and no more than 170lbs the morning of the fight. The use of a sauna to make weight is against the BBBofC regulations.
The contracted weight was a point of contention throughout the build-up, with Eubank Sr publicly opposing and appealing for the fight to be called off because of the perceived dangers to his son.
After marginally missing weight at 160.05lbs, Eubank managed to stay under the rehydration limit to keep the fight on.
The Southern Area Council cleared Eubank Jr of any wrongdoing concerning the use of a sauna but fined him for posting the footage to social media.
It said in a statement: “Mr Eubank Jr was found to be in breach of Regulation 25 for misuse of social media. The Southern Area Council fined Mr. Eubank Jnr. the sum of £10,000.”
They continued: “Mr Eubank Jr was confirmed as arriving late for the official weigh-in ceremony for the contest in question and received a severe reprimand placed on his file from the Southern Area Council.”
This is Eubank Jr’s third fine in connection with his recent family legacy grudge match with Benn in February. The total of the fines is now nearly £500,000.
‘Next Gen’ was first fined at the launch press conference for smashing an egg over Conor Benn’s face, which cost him £100,000 and a further £375,000 for missing his contracted weight.
This fine must be paid before the board can license Eubank Jr for his next fight, which will be the mega fight rematch against Conor Benn on September 20.
