Ex-champion makes bold Benn call for 'mismatch' Prograis

Wardley vs. Dubois: Only on DAZN PPV - May 9

Carl Froch believes that Conor Benn will defeat Regis Prograis this weekend despite the latter being a better fighter pound-for-pound.

Benn returns to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the scene of both his legendary fights with Chris Eubank Jr, as he looks to make a statement against the former world champion.

Having his first fight away from the Matchroom banner, Benn has faced scrutiny in recent months regarding the way he left Eddie Hearn and it’s unclear what kind of welcome awaits him when he has his first fight of 2026.

Once upon a time, Prograis was considered one of the best fighters in boxing and he was so close to becoming the best fighter at 140lbs before he narrowly lost to Josh Taylor in 2019.

Now up at 150lbs to face Benn, Prograis is conceding plenty of size to Benn, and Froch thinks that could be a factor.

Benn is eager to push on and challenge for world titles with big fights against a Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney possible, but with Prograis first up, he can’t afford any slip ups.

“Pound for pound, Regis Prograis beats Conor Benn 10 times out of 10. Pound for pound, it’s a mismatch,” said Froch when speaking to Newbettingsites.uk .

“But Regis Prograis is in his 38th year. He’s been inactive. He’s had three losses anyway, so the answer could be that Conor Benn has got him bang on at the right time. I expect him [Benn] to do the job and get the stoppage within six rounds.”
