There may be no major titles on the line, but the stakes could not be higher for British heavyweight Dave Allen on Saturday night.
At Sheffield's Utilita Arena, live on DAZN, Allen is set for the biggest fight of his career so far when he takes on the giant Arslanbek Makhmudov with a close to 9,000 strong crowd roaring him on.
There have been many instances where Allen was close to fading into boxing obscurity, but his first encounter with Johnny Fisher at the end of last year thrust the 'White Rhino' back into the spotlight.
A knockdown in round five still was not enough to beat Fisher in Riyadh who won by split decision, but when the rematch took place this past May, Allen made sure he was the victor with a punishing knockout.
As a reward for beating Fisher in emphatic fashion, Allen will take on Makhmudov, a heavyweight who may not be the most technical of fighters, but has dynamite in his hands.
If Allen manages to beat Makhmudov in the Steel City, then an even bigger fight next has been promised with a former world champion in the mix to tackle the 'White Rhino'.
"If I beat Makhmudov I’m told I’m either going to box [Deontay] Wilder or [Kubrat] Pulev basically," Allen told The Stomping Ground.
"If I get beat, I’ve got an eight-round comeback fight and then either Johnny Fisher for a third time or we’ll try and win the British or Commonwealth. This is my last chance at the big time."
An Allen-Wilder fight is certainly one which raises both excitement and concern with the American once heavyweight's most feared name due his concussive knockout power.
However, after losing the trilogy fight to Tyson Fury four years ago, Wilder is a shadow of his former self, winning just two of his last four fights and showing a reluctance to throw the knockout blows which made a recognisable name.
If the 'Bronze Bomber' is indeed tempted to face Allen, then a confident 'Doncaster De La Hoya' could be considered a favourite against the former WBC heavyweight champion.
Allen vs. Makhmudov is live on DAZN this Saturday night, October 11. Watch the fight and whole card with a DAZN subscription.
