David Adeleye hopes to prove he is 'something special' against Filip Hrgovic

David Adeleye is ready to show the world that he is 'something special' ahead of his clash with Filip Hrgovic this Saturday on the undercard of Moses Itauma vs Dillian Whyte.

Speaking to The Stomping Ground ahead of the biggest challenge of his career, Adeleye said this fight is the perfect opportunity to prove his level to those who are overlooking him. 

Adeleye said, “A lot of people are overlooking me, so I get to show people how good I really am. If you are boxing people at a certain level and you keep beating them, they are only going to compare you to the people you are beating." 

He added: “When you start stepping up the levels and beating the people levels above you, then they start to show you like ‘maybe he is something special’.”

After suffering his first defeat against Fabio Wardley in 2023, Adeleye was forced to rebuild, claiming the English heavyweight title by blowing Solomon Dacres away in one round and beating Jamie TKV for the vacant British title, also inside the distance.

The former British Champion was initially supposed to have a rematch with Jamie TKV after the controversial nature of the finish, but the opportunity to take a big step up to the world level and fight Hrgovic was given to him, which left the rematch in ashes.

Hrgovic said he does not think Adeleye has the skills to compete with him and that he has faced much better opposition in his career. The Brit took offence to Hrgovic’s claims and said that if he does not think he is good enough, then he wouldn’t need a full training camp. 

Adeleye explained: “If he doesn’t rate me, I hope he hasn’t been training. Makes it easier for me. Stay out, go partying, and do what you are doing. 

“But he has had a full camp, so you can’t come out here doing all this ‘cool’ stuff, then going into training and having a full camp. Of course, he rates me.”
