British heavyweight prospect Delicious Orie has announced his retirement from boxing after just one fight in the professional ranks.

After appearing with Team GB at the Paris Olympics last year, Orie was a sought after talent with his likeable personality and the signs of promise he showed as an amateur.

In February, Frank Warren's Queensberry Promotions had won the race to sign Orie to a professional contract, and in an interview with DAZN News, he declared that in 10 years time he would be a world champion

Orie made his professional debut on the undercard of Filip Hrgovic's win over Joe Joyce last April, and while it was a mixed performance, Orie got his pro career off to a winning start at Manchester's Co-op Live against Milos Veletic

With the British heavyweight scene one full of exciting talent, Orie was set to be a welcome addition to boxing's most popular weight division after turning down an offer to become a part of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)

In a statement released on his Instagram account, Orie revealed that he will look to pursue a career in the corporate instead of showcasing his talent inside the squared circle.

"After much reflection, I have decided to hang up my gloves and retire from boxing to follow up on my degree and enter the corporate world," Orie said.

“This sport has given me so much - incredible memories, unforgettable experiences travelling the world and many opportunities to represent my countries on the biggest stages in the world. Forever grateful for the journey.

“Over time, I’ve come to recognise that the same fire and love I once had for boxing has gradually faded. As I’ve grown, I’ve come to value clarity and honesty with myself above all.

“I hoped that turning professional would reignite the passion but the truth has become clear: it hasn’t. Every fighter knows you need a deep love for the craft to reach the top - and without it there’s no path forward.

“Out of respect for the sport and for myself it’s time to step away with honesty.”
