Dillian Whyte accepts he has been “picked to lose” against rising star Moses Itauma on Saturday night.
The big-hitting rivals will share the ring in Saudi Arabia for the latest instalment of heavyweight classics under the Riyadh Season banner live on DAZN PPV.
This fight has serious implications for the careers of both men, and is very much a case of the ageing campaigner Whyte, 37, against the young upstart, 20-year-old Itauma.
In an exclusive interview with DAZN, Whyte said: “No-one wants to fight him.
“If I was of the same mindset as everyone then boxing would be dead.
“I get a lot of stick for stepping up to the plate and trying to do stuff.
“People should be glad about that. Imagine if I’d done the coward’s tactics? No. Someone has to step up to the plate.
“Maybe I’m crazy and have a different mindset.
“All that matters is what me and my family think. I don’t care what anyone else thinks.
“I haven’t got anything to prove to myself.”
When it was suggested that Whyte had been “picked to lose” as Itauma’s opponent, he replied: “Of course.
“I [am not] stupid – I know the game and I don’t take it personally.
“They’re already talking about him fighting Usyk, but what am I going to do?
“Be scared and start crying? Only God alone can call the shots.
“You can say what you want, do what you want, but if it’s to be it will be.
“You can’t go against God’s plan. My plan is God’s plan.”
