Some claim the former UFC star will never return to the cage.

Francis Ngannou is one of the biggest stars in combat sports.

After becoming a prominent name in MMA which saw him become the UFC heavyweight champion, Ngannou is now quickly becoming a big star in boxing after just one fight as a professional.

The Cameroonian's debut took place last October when he faced WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and he emerged with plenty of credit despite losing on a split decision.

Now Ngannou is preparing to face former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua on March 8 in Riyadh in what promises to be an exciting encounter.

But one question continues to linger over Ngannou, and that is whether he will return to MMA after he signed a lucrative deal with PFL to become a part of the promotion's "Super Fight" division.

Despite plans for Ngannou's PFL debut being made for later this year, there are some who believe boxing could be where the former UFC star spends the rest of his fighting career.

When asked on Ariel Helwani's MMA Hour about Ngannou's MMA future, promoter Eddie Hearn expects him to return to the cage, but did not count out Ngannou staying in boxing to face the biggest names the sport has to offer.

"I think if he gets destroyed by AJ, I think he will fight in MMA," Hearn said.

"I think if it’s competitive, certainly if he wins, he’ll go on and potentially fight Tyson Fury.

"This fight is going to tell us a lot because every time I talk to you, I get very scared, and I just get a feeling in my stomach because I know you think he can win this fight."
