Eubank Jr trainer Jonathan Banks reveals the key to victory against Conor Benn
Chris Eubank Jr is looking in sharp form in recent training footage released by DAZN at Top Rank Boxing gym in Las Vegas where he was hitting pads alongside trainer Jonathan Banks.
Conor Benn is set to face Chris Eubank Jr in a highly anticipated bout on April 26th with the bad blood dating generations back and the rivalry becoming more heated at the moment.
Who is Chris Eubank Jrs' trainer, Jonathan Banks?
Jonathan Banks is an American, world-class qualified boxing trainer from Michigan, he has worked with many boxing legends previously, such as "Dr Steel Hammer" Wladimir Klitschko and is currently training other big names such as Gennady Golovkin, Badou Jack, and of course Chris Eubank Jr. Banks is also a former professional boxer himself but retired in 2014.
Eubank Jr has been under Bank's wing since 2024 and explained in an interview back in 2024 when he was rumoured to be fighting Canelo Alvarez: “I like Johnathon Banks’ philosophy, his mindset, and his teaching. I like everything that he says and the things that he does in training. He also trained GGG for this exact opponent. He’s got the ingredients and the know-how how to beat this man.”
How is Banks preparing Eubank Jr to face Conor Benn?
In the exclusive training video with DAZN ON THE GROUND, we got to see a preview of what Banks has in store for Eubank's preparation for April 26th after a pads session, when we saw a backstage pep talk between the pair of Banks discussing improvements adjustments Eubank Jr. could make.
He specifically went into Eubank Jrs' uppercut, which many believe to be his best punch, with Banks stating: “So, they have the rhythm to throw shots, it’s cool, it works for a lot of people, for a lot of people it don’t. And every time I see you throw, you always throw that shot.
"So, I said okay, if that’s the shot you want to throw, now all day we got to do is either style it or add to it. When you throw it, how can I put it? It’s in your personality. So, the more moves I can have to support your personality, the better I can have your mind and your hands in perfect place and that’s the whole purpose."
Banks added with "Everything I’m doing I have to have something to do with you so something that you can do, if you have to eat it at least you can eat it and like it because it’s not different from you.
"That’s the goal, that’s why everything I do according to what you do. Because everything has to be tailor-made to Chris Eubank jr because, like you said, it’s the Chris Eubank Jr show. And that’s why we did everything we did today. Now we build a wall around it so nobody can infiltrate it.”
