Fabio Wardley has revealed he was close to facing Derek Chisora before agreeing his first world title defence against Daniel Dubois .
After being upgraded to WBO heavyweight ruler at the backend of last year, Wardley was linked to several fights, but it now confirmed that he will go in with Dubois on May 9 in Manchester in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
Before that bout was agreed, it appeared that Wardley would take on Chisora with the veteran heavyweight getting a major title opportunity in what would be his 50th contest.
Despite long talks between the f9ghters camps, a deal was not agreed and Chisora is instead preparing for another huge battle when he collides with Deontay Wilder in April.
With all the fighters involved now aware of what their next fight will be, preparations are now in place for those huge fights with Wardley and Dubois coming together yesterday at a press conference to publicise the event.
Revealing that Chisora was a serious option, Wardley has revealed how close the fight was and why it did not happen.
"The Chisora one was a strong conversation for a while, but Chisora will be Chisora," said Wardley when speaking to Talksport .
"What [Chisora] wanted, how we wanted it to look, etc., etc., it just wasn't feasible, wasn't going together so we pivoted off that."
