One heavyweight will pose unique test to Oleksandr Usyk says respected trainer

Rafferty vs Chamberlain - Saturday - live on DAZN

There is no doubt Oleksandr Usyk is one of boxing's greats.

An undisputed champion in two-weight divisions, Usyk continues to mystify the sporting world with his ability to make the sweet science a joy to watch.

What makes Usyk a generational talent is that with every challenge put in front of him, he navigates in dominant fashion.

From the hard-hitting Daniel Dubois to the gigantic Tyson Fury, Usyk has beaten many of boxing's biggest names and it has been difficult to see who can make life difficult for Usyk and inflict the first professional loss of his career.

Now Britain's Moses Itauma is supposedly being steered towards a showdown with the Ukrainian.

His first round knockout win against Dillian Whyte on Saturday night resulted in some calling for Itauma to face Usyk sooner rather than later.

Appearing on DAZN's Ariel x Ade show, Itauma's trainer Ben Davison believes his man will pose a challenge that Usyk has never faced before.

"The fight everyone says is out of reach is Oleksandr Usyk," Davison said.

"If we were to put him into that Usyk fight and he was to lose, if I was to look back on that situation and say, ‘What should we have done differently or what we should give him to stand a better chance in that fight?’, it would be rounds.

"I think we need to find somebody that’s able to deliver rounds because as much as people claim he’s never fought anybody like Usyk, which is correct, I’m strongly of the opinion that Usyk has not boxed somebody like Moses either."

In theory, Itauma should have his pick of the top heavyweight contenders to face next as he looks to maintain his charge towards a world title.

However, with Itauma such a dangerous talent, prospective opponents will be reluctant to step into the ring with the 20-year-old and attempt to price themselves out.

Speaking about Itauma's future plans, Davison teased that a list has been put together, but was reluctant to share any names due the previously mentioned reasons.

"We’ve got a couple of opponents in mind. We’re going to sit down and have a conversation to see where the team are at.

"I’m not going to mention any names because I think that could drive the price up."

One potential future foe for Itauma could be Croatian Filip Hrgovic who is not afraid to go toe-to-toe after linking up with trainer Abel Sanchez.

This desire was on show in his win against David Adeleye on the undercard of Itauma-Whyte, with the pair producing a Round of the Year contender in the eighth session.
