Jaime Munguia vs. John Ryder set for January 27 live on DAZN

Jaime Munguia vs. John Ryder set for January 27 live on DAZNGolden Boy Promotions
A big challenge for Munguia early into the New Year.

The undefeated Jaime Munguia has his next opponent.

During the Ryan Garcia vs. Oscar Duarte main card Saturday night, DAZN announced that Munguia will take on John Ryder on January 27 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona, and live on DAZN.

At 27-years-old, Munguia (42-0, 33 KOs) is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Sergiy Derevyanchenko in June — Munguia’s only fight of 2023.

Meanwhile, Ryder (32-6, 18 KOs) went the distance with Canelo Alvarez in May before losing via unanimous decision.

“Jaime Munguia … finally we got it done,” Oscar De La Hoya said on DAZN. “Jaime Munguia vs. Ryder — the guy who went the distance with Canelo, so imagine his position. Imagine what he’s thinking, Jaime Munguia — ‘I want to knock out Ryder, what Canelo could not do.’ That will be a huge statement.”

De La Hoya has heard the clamor of Munguia stepping up in competition and taking on bigger-name opponents, but vows that the fighter is learning and improving.

“He’s learning, he’s growing, he’s maturing," De La Hoya said of Munguia. "Jaime Munguia is one of these kids that needed all of those fights under his belt. He needed that experience. Finally we have him in that position where he can fight anybody in the world."
