Jake Paul is eager to face former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, claims trainer Malik Scott.

Paul is the talk of the boxing world at the moment with 'The Problem Child' being linked with a number of heavyweight names, including Anthony Joshua with Eddie Hearn expressing an interest in making the contest.

If Joshua decides to go a different way, then Wilder could be a possible candidate for a Paul fight according to Scott who trained 'The Bronze Bomber' for a number of contests.

"I’ve been in New York for the Katie Taylor fight and I just met Jake Paul’s partner [Nakisa Bidarian], literally three minutes ago. And the first thing he said was, ‘we're interested in the Deontay Wilder fight’," Scott told Thunderpick.

"He asked me, ‘what do I think of it?’ They're just so serious. Some of the things that he said confidently to me, really makes you know that they're not fake confident, they really are confident [in defeating Wilder].

"I don't know if it will ever materialize into something, but they're on to something, this whole Jake Paul thing, and I believe the key to their success is timing.

"But we're talking about Jake Paul in the ring with Deontay Wilder, it just makes no sense at all. But unfortunately Jake Paul is a big money guy in the sport of boxing right now."

Scott is no longer in Wilder's corner after being relieved of his duties four weeks before the latter's clash with Tyrell Herndon in June.

Wilder came into his meeting with Herndon on the back of two bruising losses to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, and a victory was paramount to keep the American's career alive.

A seventh round knockout from Wilder saw him end this two-fight losing streak and remain a big name player in the heavyweight division for a little while longer.
