Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions brings another card of boxing to DAZN viewers this weekend, with action from the Convention Center on South Padre Island live on Saturday, October 18.

Titled Prospects 16: Championship edition, a mixture of up-and-coming fighters and world title holders are in action in Texas on a show organised by the YouTuber-turned-boxer.

Here’s a rundown of the fighters on the card this weekend .

Mexican veterans battle for world title

The bill is headlined by two experienced Mexicans with 74 bouts between them. Yesica Nery Plata reigned as a unified champion at light flyweight after winning the WBC and WBA belts at 108lbs in 2023, only for complications with pregnancy to force her to vacate her titles in 2024.

Returning to the ring for the first time in 22 months, Plata takes on Lourdes Juarez, a two-division world champion in her own right.

Juarez previously campaigned as a super flyweight, winning the WBC version of the belt in 2020. She kept hold of the strap before losing to compatriot Asley Gonzalez Macias in 2022, with the younger fighter also beating Juarez in a 2023 rematch.

Dropping down to 108lbs to campaign as a light flyweight in 2024, Juarez became the WBC’s champion in a second division with a dominant unanimous decision win over Yesenia Gomez in her homeland of Mexico.

Juarez is not the only multi-division champion in her family, with older sister Mariana winning the WBC titles at both flyweight and bantamweight.

The headlining bout with Plata marks the first time Juarez has fought outside of Mexico in her professional career, the 38-year-old defending champion having won 38 and lost four of her previous 42 fights.

Plata joined MVP in July 2025 as the promotional company's first Mexican female fighter, having won her last nine fights. She was last defeated by Kenia Stephanie Enriquez in 2017, losing out on the WBC interim light flyweight title.

Two belts on the line for Desley Robinson and Logan Holler

The all-Mexican bout between Plata and Juarez is not the only world title fight on the card. Fresh off the back of unifying her IBF world middleweight title with the vacant WBO strap against Chloe Chaos in April, Desley Robinson (10-3, 3 KOs) faces American challenger Logan Holler (11-3-1, 4 KOs).

A former challenger for the IBF light heavyweight title against fellow Aussie Lani Daniels in 2023, Robinson became a world champion in her own right when she defeated the previously unbeaten Kaye Scott in December 2024.

It will be Holler’s first world title fight, the 34-year-old securing her first knockout win in eight years back in July with her first round stoppage of Tekeya Farmer.

It marks the first time Robinson has fought in the US, having joined MVP at the same time as Plata.

Texas-born prospect rebuilding to world title contention

Still only 26, Omar Juarez (19-2, 2 KOs) finds himself hard at work attempting to rebuild his world ranking status. At the end of 2022 he was the WBC international welterweight champion and ranked 22nd by the organisation; an unexpected defeat to Cuban Rances Barthelemy in May 2023 changed the narrative around the American.

Formerly of Premier Boxing Champions, Juarez was a small welterweight, typically weighing in just over the super lightweight limit of 140lbs.

Now cutting down to make the smaller division, he faces Puerto Rican Omar Rosario (14-2, 4 KOs), who has similarly returned to super lightweight after a brief foray at welterweight.

A Texas-native, Juarez’s fight with Rosario will serve as the event’s chief support.

Despite the setbacks, Juarez is still confident he can become a world champion, telling BoxingScene.com : “We were both prospects on our way to a world title, but suffered some losses on the way.

“We both know that we have to go through each other if we want to get a title.

“For me personally, my losses will not define my future.

“I’ve only gotten stronger and hungrier. I’m coming for my world titles. Rosario is just in the way.”

Three-minute rounds for two women's boxers

Unbeaten flyweight Krystal Rosado-Ortiz’s bout with Shurretta Metcalf further down the undercard is intriguing, as it is a women’s contest set for eight three-minute rounds.

The debate has raged for some time over whether women’s fights should match the timing and length of bouts between men. Out of the four women’s matches on the card it will be the only bout contested with three-minute rounds.

Undefeated prospects on undercard

Knockout artist Alexis Chaparro (5-0, 5 KOs) takes on fellow undefeated prospect David Gutierrez Garcia (4-0, 2 KOs), in a middleweight contest. Chaparro was signed by MVP during their September 2024 expansion into Puerto Rico, with the middleweight making his debut on the promotion’s show in April. Working with former women's champion Amanda Serrano, Chaparro is well backed.

Sebastian Juarez, the younger brother of the aforementioned Omar Juarez, hopes to continue his unbeaten start to his career against Demarcus Layton, who boasts plenty more experience than the 20-year-old thanks to a record of 10 wins, seven losses, and one draw.

The younger Juarez has already fought nine times since turning professional in 2023, winning all his contests - and seven by knockout. He fights in his home state for the first time, having appeared on MVP shows in Orlando earlier this year.

Other notable fighters on the card include Alexander Gueche, a teenage super featherweight that was a beaten finalist at the 2022 US National Youth Championships. Since turning professional he has picked up nine wins, with an impressive six knockouts standing out in such a light weight class. He faces Jaden Burnias, a 22-year-old that possesses knockout power of his own, with six of his seven wins coming via stoppage. However, Burnias has lost four fights and drawn a further two, making Gueche the favourite for the contest.
