Keyshawn Davis has been installed as the number-one contender for the WBO light-welterweight title, placing him on a collision course with Shakur Stevenson.
'The Businessman' secured a final-round stoppage against Jamaine Ortiz at The Ring 6 last month to reaffirm his credentials after a disruptive 2025 at lightweight.
But victory has now placed him into the path of close friend Stevenson, who took out the strap against holder Teofimo Lopez atop the bill at Madison Square Garden.
It comes just days after the WBC stripped the former of his lightweight crown, further underlining the four-weight champion has now firmly moved to a new division.
No mandatory order has been issued to Stevenson by the WBO so far, meaning he likely would not be stripped of his crown if he refused to face Davis in the ring.
Nevertheless, the latter will be keen to move for a title shot of his own elsewhere in the division, particularly as both it and the welterweight class face a sea change.
Both Stevenson and Davis have outlined potential plans to move up a division themselves, with the former linked to a bout against Conor Benn in the last few weeks.
His friend meanwhile has namechecked both Devin Haney and Lewis Crocker as potential options, with the pair currently the WBO and IBF welterweight champions.
