Jordan Gill overwhelms Michael Conlan for seventh-round TKO
Jordan Gill quieted the crowd and delivered a rousing performance to defeat Michael Conlan in Belfast on Saturday.
Both men were coming off losses and were in need of a victory in this bout, with Gill ending the night with his hand held high.
It was a humbling defeat for Conlan, who has now been on the wrong end of back-to-back stoppages at the SSE Arena.
Gill started the bout the better of the two fighters, looking to overwhelm Conlan with his strength and power. While Conlan managed to turn things around through the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds, the threat of Gill landing heavy shots never subsided.
In the seventh round the Briton hit Conlan with a flurry of punches that clearly affected the Belfast native, with Conlan providing no resistance and forcing the referee to step in at the 1:09 mark to call off the fight.
While it was an impressive performance by Gill, the result throws Conlan's future into doubt.
