'It's a win-win!' - Moses Itauma's trainer reveals whether star would take Oleksandr Usyk bout

Itauma vs Whyte - Saturday - only on DAZN PPV

A bout for Moses Itauma with Oleksandr Usyk would be a "win-win" for the Briton, says trainer Ben Davison, ahead of the former's fight with Dillian Whyte in Riyadh on Saturday.

The WBO #1 contender will look to cement his status as the premier young heavyweight of his generation against the veteran WBC interim belt holder on DAZN Pay-Per-View.

Speculation has been rife that victory could put him on a path to challenge for a belt sooner rather than later, with Usyk currently undisputed champion in the glamour division.

Speaking at Wednesday's open workouts, Davison revealed that Itauma would be unlikely to avoid such a prospect at this juncture, and explained why his star would be a match.

"I think it's a win-win," he said on the chance for Itauma to possibly face Usyk. "You get the chance to face the best of a generation, if not the best ever. I think it's a win-win.

"As much as Moses hasn't shared the ring with somebody like Usyk, to be truly honest, I don't think Usyk has shared the ring with somebody like Moses.

"He is a thinking fighter. He's able to process, to come back and talk to you in the corner. We're solely focused on [Whyte], but there is not a fight [we'd swerve].

"He's a real special talent. It's my job to have him prepared if the fight [goes the distance]. I've brought guys in that have put him in situations where it's supposed to get tough.

"He ends up walking them down, he ends up battering them. I think that's what you saw from Shakur Stevenson when he boxed William Zepeda. He's got that in his locker.

"Dillian was one of the names we were up for. It's a great step-up for him, it's a great scalp for him, it's a great test for him and one we're confident he's able to come through."
