Is a lofty ranking coming Tommy Fury's way?
Is Tommy Fury about to receive a decent boost with the WBC?
After registering a win over Eddie Hall this past weekend, Fury maintained his unbeaten record, but will we see him move away from crossover fights to pursue respected titles?
Fury has been linked to future showdowns with Darren Till, Carl Froch, and a Jake Paul rematch, and even though those fights contain significant commercial appeal, Fury maintains he can win belts.
Maurico Sulaiman, the WBC president, has provided an update on where Fury could find himself in the upcoming rankings.
“I think he has the merits. We like everything that has to do with crossover, with its support,” said Sulaiman when speaking to Betway.
“Let's make it interesting. Let's understand the current times while respecting boxing at the same time [on Fury v Eddie Hall]. So, I'm all up for that, and we'll see what the ratings committee will do for next month's rankings.”
Johnny Fisher on the move?
Johnny Fisher’s promotional agreement with Matchroom is up and the popular heavyweight could look elsewhere for his next move.
Once considered one of Britain’s best heavyweight prospects, Fisher’s world came crashing down in 2025 when he was emphatically stopped by Dave Allen in five rounds.
Fisher responded well last December when he travelled to Monaco to get back to winning ways against Ivan Balaz.
In recent weeks, Fisher has been linked to a showdown with Dillian Whyte on a potential Matchroom vs Queensberry 7 vs 7 event, but what promotional group will he be representing?
Matchroom have the right to match any offer Fisher receives, but whether they choose to do so will depend on what demand there is out there for the Essex heavyweight.
Gassiev vs Itauma in 2026
Murat Gassiev came close to arranging a fight with Moses Itauma this summer, but the WBA regular heavyweight champion will instead face Tony Yoka.
Gassiev has had a mixed run at heavyweight following major success at cruiserweight, but after stopping Kubrat Pulev last year, he is now in a good position ahead of taking on Yoka.
Despite missing out on Itauma for his next fight, Gassiev is confident that they can arrange something for later in 2026.
"He has a good future. Right now, he went this way, I went that way,” said Gassiev when speaking to Sky Sports.
"Maybe, at the end of the year or maybe next year, we can make the fight, in the UK - or anywhere. But right now for me, my focus is Tony [Yoka]."
