Chris Eubank Jr is fine with being the bad guy in his fights, but he says that on April 26 he will not be the only one.
Eubank and Conor Benn are set to have their long-running feud finally culminate in a boxing match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, broadcast live worldwide on DAZN . The pair shared the stage on Tuesday in the first pre-fight press conference, and the war of words continued as expected.
"The bad guy is back again," Eubank said, referring to himself. "He still never cheats, he still never lies, he still never cuts any corners yet he is still the bad guy. Isn't it incredible?
"The unique and peculiar situation we find ourselves in here today is that, for the first time in boxing history, in a mega-fight, there are two bad guys."
Eubank recounted being booed during his 2014 loss to Billy Joe Saunders, as well as during his victory over Liam Smith in their 2023 rematch. He also claims to have been booed when ringside for Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois last year, leading to him to accept his fate as a so-called "supervillain" within British boxing.
"I say all that to say that on April 26 I'm probably going to be walking into the same environment," Eubank explained. "But it's OK, because I'm not going to be alone."
The 35-year-old alluded to Benn's adverse test finding that scuppered their original October 2022 bout just days before it was scheduled, which is why Eubank says "there's two bad guys in this fight."
"I gave up on my dreams of being the hero a long, long, long time ago," he said. "[Conor] still wants, believes and dreams and prays of being the good guy, of being the golden boy."
Expanding on the metaphor, Eubank chided his rival for squandering an opportunity he says was never available to him.
"The sickening thing about this situation is, Conor you had it," Eubank said. "You had the whole public behind you. Everyone wanted you to win. They wanted you to be the next big thing in boxing. I never had that. Do you know what I would have given to be in the situation you were in? You had it.
"You p—ed it all away. You literally p—ed it all away. Now you're here, we're at this press conference, we're going to fight, and you're going to try and use me to get back into the public's good graces. It's just not going to happen for you, kid. Sorry to break it to you."
