British cult hero volunteers for Fury tune-up before Joshua bout

Dave Allen has thrown his hat in the ring for Tyson Fury in the latter's tune-up bout if he comes past Filip Hrgovic on Saturday.

'The Gypsy King' returned from retirement last month with a comfortable points decision over Arslanbek Makhmudov in London.

Since then however, news that Anthony Joshua will face Kristian Prenga before the pair's super-bout has Fury eyeing another fight.

Now Allen has put his hand up to take on his fellow Briton, revealing he plans to call out the former world champion this weekend.

"If I beat Hrgovic, Tyson Fury is getting called out," he told Sky Sports News. "A hundred percent. Even if I lose [...] I want the fight."

"I'll do what I can [against Hrgovic], but it's going to be hard work. [He is] the fourth Olympic medalist I've faced in my career.

"I'm buzzing for it. I'm under no pressure. All the pressure is on Filip. I've just got to go out there, try my best and that's enough."

Fury and Joshua are due to finally meet later this year, after years of failed attempts to broker a bout between the heavyweight pair.

Allen keen to cross paths with Fury

You can't blame Dave Allen for wanting a crack at Tyson Fury, especially given the latter's most recent bout with Arslanbek Makhmudov.

The Montrealer booked that fight on the back of a wide decision win over 'The White Rhino' in Sheffield last year, in a scrappy contest.

Much like Makhmudov, Allen would not be expected to win. But if the purpose is to give Fury a dozen more rounds, then he wants it.

For one, any pay packet would surely rank among the biggest of his career. For another, it offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity too.

It seems unlikely that Fury will book another bout before Joshua, despite his words. But if he does, consider Allen in the mix for now.
