New England Patriots rookie offensive tackle Will Campbell has apologised for declining to speak with reporters following the team’s Super Bowl LX loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.

Campbell said his silence stemmed from the emotional weight of the moment and a desire to clear his head before addressing the media.

“Obviously, I was picked high and paid a lot, so people expect a certain thing, and I expect more from myself,” Campbell admitted to reporters on Tuesday.

“Whenever I don’t perform, I don’t expect everyone to be like, ‘It’s okay, buddy.’ I mean, obviously it sucks, but it doesn’t suck for anyone more than it sucks for me," he continued.

The 22-year-old allowed eight pressures in the Super Bowl and struggled throughout much of the postseason.

Campbell suggested the MCL injury he suffered in Week 12 was a contributing factor to his poor play.

“It obviously wasn’t 100 per cent. When you tear a ligament in your knee, it’s not going to be how it was before, but I was healthy enough to go.

“I’m not going to say it held me back, but yeah, it wasn’t the same as it was before. Still, I was good enough to be out there."

Campbell’s decision not to address reporters immediately after the game drew criticism from some corners, with observers noting that most players take at least a few questions even after tough losses.

Still, that willingness to own his performance — and sit with the disappointment — reflects a level of accountability that should serve him well as the Patriots look ahead to a 2026 revenge run.
