College Football Playoff Picture 2025: Who's IN? Who's on the BUBBLE?

We are in Week 8 of the college football season, which means we are closer to the first College Football Playoff Rankings on Tuesday, Nov. 4. The 2025 playoffs are going to be different as there will now be 12 teams vying to play in the national championship game on Jan. 19, 2026, in Miami. The first four teams will automatically get a bye into the quarterfinals. 

If the season ended on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025, who would be on the road to Miami and who would be on the outside looking in? Is Notre Dame in? How about Alabama? What about the reigning national champions in Ohio State?

Quarterfinal Matchups 

At the Goodyear Cotton Bowl, Capital One Orange Bowl, and Rose Bowl on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

• Ohio State (No. 1) vs. No. 8 Georgia/No. 9 Oregon winner
• Miami (No. 2) vs. No. 7 Alabama/No. 10 Georgia Tech winner
• Indiana (No. 3) vs. No. 6 Ole Miss/No. 11 LSU winner
