The Indianapolis Colts have locked in quarterback Daniel Jones - at least for the time being.
According to multiple reports, Indianapolis are poised to hand the quarterback a new two-year contract worth $88 million.
The Colts already knew who he was after handing him a one-year deal and 13 starts in 2025. Jones took full advantage of the opportunity, throwing for 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns and only eight interceptions.
By placing the transition tag on him last week and then then committing this kind of money, Indianapolis has effectively created an expensive prove-it scenario.
The price tag might raise a few eyebrows for a player whose career has not exactly been a picture of consistency.

There have been stretches in Jones' career where he looked every bit the first-round pick he once was.
On the other hand, there were moments toward the end of his time with his former team, the New York Giants, when his production dipped, and uncertainty followed.
That said, his accuracy has improved in Indianapolis, and his physical tools remain underrated. Jones is a capable athlete who can escape pressure, extend plays and pick up extra yardage with his legs.
That ability to improvise when plays break down is invaluable.
For now, extending Jones represents a brief shift away from the Colts’ recent tendency to rotate through quarterback solutions.
And by handing him the bag and bringing back one of his top wideouts in Alec Pierce, the Colts clearly believe their offense is in good hands.
Time will tell if they are right.
