It is only Week 2, but the Green Bay Packers are already making an early claim to being the class of the NFC — and possibly the entire NFL.

After defeating the Detroit Lions comfortably on Sunday, the Packers (2-0) followed that victory with a 27-18 home win over the Washington Commanders (1-1) at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin on Thursday Night Football.

Jordan Love aired it out for 292 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Packers on a couple of 90-plus yard drives during the first half as the home team never looked back.

In addition, the Packers’ defense once again dominated, limiting the Commanders to 230 total yards including just 51 yards rushing. Newly-acquired star defensive end Micah Parsons was once again a major disruptor with half a sack and three quarterback hits. In total, he recorded eight pressures, six of which came in the second half.

The Commanders did not do themselves any favors with kicker Matt Gay missing two of three field goals.

Though the Packers wound up dominating, they got off to a rather dubious start. On the opening drive, Green Bay had a 39-yard touchdown pass nullified due to an offensive holding penalty and subsequently turned the ball over on downs.

But after forcing a three and out, the Packers manufactured a seven-play, 96-yard drive ending in a short touchdown pass from Love to Romeo Doubs.

A couple of drives later and the Packers extended their lead to 14-0 in the second quarter after a 10-play, 92-yard drive capped by a Josh Jacobs goal-line rushing TD.

The Commanders made it a one-possession game early in the fourth quarter with a Jayden Daniels’ 20-yard touchdown connection with tight end Zach Ertz to pull Washington to within 17-10, but that is as close as they would get.

The Packers answered right back with a nine-play, 65-yard drive punctuated by a Love touchdown pass to Tucker Kraft.

They would tack on a 56-yard field goal to make it 27-10 with 6:42 left in the game.

Daniels found Deebo Samuel for a 10-yard touchdown and the Commanders added a two-point conversion to inch Washington to within 27-18 with 2:53 remaining but the effort came way too late.

The Packers secured an onside kick and drained the clock from there for the win.

In possession of an elite defense thus far, the Packers will look to keep rolling during Week 3 when they hit the road for the first time this season to face the Cleveland Browns.
