Kyler Murray hasn’t picked up a professional bat in a long time, but his baseball background still follows him around.
Before he was selected first overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, Murray was considered a talented baseball player.
His potential was such that the Oakland Athletics picked him ninth overall in the 2018 MLB Draft.
Murray obviously chose football and has since enjoyed seven relatively productive seasons in the NFL as quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals.
However, with Murray set to be released by Arizona ahead of free agency, the A’s say they would still be willing to talk if he ever wanted to revisit the sport.
Murray has yet to respond, but at this point, and considering the number of suitors he will have in free agency, a return to baseball feels unlikely.
With that said, the Athletics have given him options.
