The Pittsburgh Steelers (6-5) and Buffalo Bills (7-4) are both firmly in the hunt for playoff football.

The Bills are unlikely to catch the Patriots atop the AFC East, but a Wild Card spot is well within their reach. The Steelers are eyeing their chances of creating daylight atop the AFC North after the Ravens' loss on Thursday.

Rodgers returns to steady the Steelers' offense

Aaron Rodgers practiced in full on Thursday after missing Week 12 with a wrist injury. The veteran's passing numbers won't frighten anyone, but his return will undoubtedly settle the offense and could elevate the ceiling of wideout D.K. Metcalf.

Running back Jaylen Warren hasn't been prolific, but he may fancy his chances against a Buffalo defense that has surrendered 5 yards per carry. That figure is tied for 31st among all teams.

The Steelers boast a pass rush trio that can inflict damage. If T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, and Nick Herbig get going, this could get ugly for Buffalo.

Bills' road struggles and offensive line woes

Buffalo's road form (2-3) has been a major issue for their offense. Josh Allen has put up 21 touchdowns at home and only five in road games.

With offensive tackle Dion Dawkins in the concussion protocol and Spencer Brown out with a shoulder issue, Allen's protection may have to use every ounce of his pocket presence to avoid oncoming pass rushers.

That may not be an issue against some teams, but the Steelers have the personnel to take advantage. If Allen is under siege again, their road problems may resurface.

Talented tailback James Cook has been superb this season, but his chances of finding open running lanes may be limited if Dawkins and Brown are unable to suit up.

Keys to the game

• Allen’s protection: if the tackles struggle, Buffalo’s offense shrinks. With Brown doubtful and Dawkins questionable, the Bills may need to adjust their game plan.
• Steelers' ability to get ahead early, or at least keep it close: Rodgers can be efficient but not prolific. Falling behind puts them in a hole.

Playoff implications

Currently, the Bills have an 88% of making the playoffs. That number improves to 95% with a win and decreases to 77% with a loss.

Baltimore's loss to the Bengals gives the Steelers an excellent opportunity to reclaim their grip on the division. A win increases their odds of reaching the postseason beyond 60%.

Prediction

All things being even, Buffalo are the better team. But this is in Pittsburgh, and the Bills' road form is a concern.

The lack of one of the Bills' offensive tackles evens the playing field, but if both are out, the edge swings Pittsburgh's way.
