Jon Rahm sealed his second successive LIV Golf Individual crown despite losing a play-off to Sebastian Munoz at LIV Golf Indianapolis, ahead of next month's Ryder Cup.

The Spaniard, who is widely expected to be a captain's pick for the event, finished at 22 under alongside the Colombian at The Club at Chatham Hills on Sunday's final day.

Despite failing to match his rival's birdie with par however, the result still proved enough for the two-time major winner to pip Joaquin Niemann to the Individual championship.

The Chilean could only tie for fourth despite the efforts of his Torque GC team-mate, who claimed his first event victory heading into next week's LIV Team Championship Michigan.

Rahm underlines Team Europe credentials

Ever since his decision to swap tours and join LIV Golf, there have been questions over whether Rahm would be able to secure a familiar berth as part of the Ryder Cup in 2025.

Amid a year of softened stances and reduced tensions, the star now looks set to be a near-certainty for Luke Donald among his captain's picks as he bids for straight triumphs.

Rahm will have his work cut out at Bethpage, particularly after his failure to win a single Individual event on the LIV Golf tour this season, but his consistency will remain key.

He found six birdies inside the first ten holes on Sunday, and nabbed a magnificent eagle on the par-five 13th to maintain a hot streak that has seen him secure high finishes.

Four consecutive birdies to close helped him to the play-off, where Munoz just edged him, but there will be plenty to celebrate as he turns towards the final event of the season.

Torque and Legion prepare to do battle

You have to feel for Niemann, one of the standout performers this year, whose tally of four triumphs delivered the best return across any player in terms of silverware throughout.

Wins in Australia, Singapore and Mexico inside the first six events of the tour set him as the early frontrunner, and he claimed the UK crown only last month too as well.

Ultimately however, his last hope will now rest at guiding Torque GC to glory next weekend, 350 miles or so north in the Great Lakes Region, against Rahm's Legion XIII.

Having sealed the Team title here, the chance to end the campaign on a high will be a key motivator after being pipped at the post by the Spaniard to the Individual gong.

Niemann may not have the pedigree his foe does, but you can bet he will not be overawed by the task at hand as he plots to upset the top seeds at The Cardinal at Saint John's.
