NHL Stanley Cup Playoff Results: Hurricanes win physical Game 3 on verge of a sweep

The second round of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs is in high gear, and the intensity is ramping up with each passing game. You can watch every game of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs live on DAZN (except in the US and Canada). 

Thursday evening had an intense atmosphere in Philadelphia between the Hurricanes and Flyers.

The No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference ran its record to 7-0 in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and overcame a physical Flyers team to win 4-1 and go up 3-0 in the series. 

"The fourth one is the hardest one to win; no one wants to go home," Jordan Staal, who scored the opening goal, said after the game. "It's going to be a brand-new challenge, a brand-new start. We're going to have to find ways to win the game, and it might look a little different than the first three."

The Flyers attempt to impose their will on the Hurricanes throughout the game/. Philadelphia's strategy didn't come to fruition as it led to 38 penalty minutes and 14 minor penalties. In the third period alone, Travis Konecny earned 14 penalty minutes in the third period while attempting to rough up a happy Carolina defenseman, K'Andre Miller. 

"That's a lot of penalties," Flyers coach Rick Tocchet, who declined to critique the officials' performance in Game 3, said. "We've just got to understand that when you're in a scrum, and you take a punch in the mouth, just don't do anything. Just take the power play.

"The officials are calling penalties, and you can tell they're antsy," he said. "It's not the right time to go and do something, even borderline. And I think we did that."

The Hurricanes will look to close out the series with Game 4 on Saturday in Philadelphia.
