Arsenal will have their fate in their own hands as they host Villarreal at the Emirates for the second leg of their 2020-21 Europa League semifinal on Thursday.
The Gunners looked lacklustre for large stretches of the first leg, allowing Vilarreal to build a two-goal lead inside the opening half hour before pulling back to within one thanks to a 73rd-minute penalty. That leaves Arsenal behind by a goal heading back to North London for the second leg, but needing to score twice to match the Yellow Submarine's away-goal output.
The Premier League side has struggled mightily this year, of course, and this may be Arsenal's last European match until at least 2022 if Mikel Arteta cannot get his men sufficiently ready for Thursday's enounter.
Villarreal's in a slightly better postion, sitting in Spain's final Europa League spot with four matches to go, but one would have to imagine that manager Unai Emery's motivation to eliminate the club that fired him 18 months ago will give the Yellow Submarine that much more incentive to win this one outright.
Here's everything you need to know about Thursday's second leg:
The match kicks off at 3:00 p.m. ET at the Emirates Stadium in London.
