Gallagher labels Tottenham win over Aston Villa 'a perfect night' as Spurs climb out of relegation zone

Tottenham Hotspur are out of the Premier League's bottom three after a spirited 2-1 win at Aston Villa on Sunday, a match which Conor Gallagher called "a perfect night."

The North London side started the day in 18th place, two points below a West Ham United side who were throttled 3-0 by Brentford on Saturday. Facing a heavily rotated Aston Villa team seemingly focused on their upcoming Europa League semi-final second leg against Nottingham Forest, Spurs raced to a two-goal lead inside the first 25 minutes thanks to goals by Gallagher and Richarlison.

Villa made several second half substitutions, but could not get past Tottenham goalkeeper Antonín Kinský until deep into stoppage time with the result already beyond doubt.

For goalscorer Gallagher, the match was as good as could be for struggling Tottenham amid a bitter relegation fight. 

"We're really happy with the performance and the three points," the 26-year-old told TNT Sports. "It's been a perfect night but hopefully it's just the start.

"We want to carry it on for the last few games of the season."

With three matches remaining in the Premier League campaign, Spurs move to 17th place with 37 points, one point more than West Ham. Gallagher credits Tottenham fans for sticking by the side throughout their woes this season, and he hopes the team can give the supporters more to cheer about by the time the season comes to a close.

"They've had a really rough time this season, along with us," Gallagher said. "We're all one. Hopefully, this can be the start of something great."
