Manchester City allowed two leads to slip away as they fell 3-2 to Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, giving the Spanish side the advantage ahead of next week's second leg in their Champions League knockout phase play-off tie.
Erling Haaland scored twice in the match, with each goal putting the home side on top, only for the visitors to answer in kind through Kylian Mbappé and Brahim Diaz. Then, with just seconds left to play, Jude Bellingham drove the dagger in with an easy finish.
For Pep Guardiola, it was the latest in a series of letdowns for his once-dominant club. Guardiola believes his side were naive in their approach in the closing moments and invited pressure from Los Blancos.
"Many times it happen this season," the Man City manager told Amazon Prime. "I know the the quality of Real Madrid. We took the game in the second half and tried to attack too quick. It happens because they are an exceptional team.
"It happens many times this season. Bad decisions, that's all. I take it. It's not about you and me, it's everyone."
Things only get tougher for the Sky Blues now, as they must try to earn a result in Madrid in order to keep their European hopes alive.
"Of course now it's tough," Guardiola said. "We have to recover. I think now about Newcastle [in the Premier League on Saturday] and then go to the Bernabeu."
