Arsenal's performance in the Champions League this week has fans dreaming of the Gunners being possible candidates to lift the trophy at the end of the season.

Mikel Arteta's men put seven past PSV to book their place in the quarter-finals, even with a second leg to come against the Dutch side.

With the Premier League now looking beyond their grasp, former defender Philippe Senderos thinks the Champions League could salvage Arsenal's season.

"I think to watch Arsenal and see how far they've come in the last few years and to be back into a position where you're actually competing for the titles, it's a great achievement," he exclusively told DAZN News, thanks to NewBettingSites.uk

"I think not only me, ex-players, but also fans, they must feel very positive about this. It's not missing too much.

"I think we all feel we're quite close, but to salvage something from the season would be to stay there until the end and compete until the end and put Liverpool under as much pressure as possible.

"And then also trying to go as far in the Champions League where you've got a chance. Things are open now you're in a play-off set-up, so why not? With a good draw, why not?"

With the second leg almost a formality, the North London side could look forward to a last-eight clash against Real Madrid if things stay the way they are. Senderos thinks it's the right time for his former side to switch focus to European ambitions.

Adding: "I think when you enter a competition, you don't target to lose one and to win another one,  so I'm sure they go in with a good feeling. I think it's a good moment to get out of thinking about the league and the two bad results that they had in the last few weeks.

"This is a good opportunity to go into a different competition with a fresh mind and prepare in a different way, and I think it comes at the right time for Arsenal."
