Chelsea awaiting the status of two key attackers ahead of FA Cup semi-final
Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer could play a part for Chelsea in Sunday's FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United, according to Calum McFarlane.
The Blues are reeling from the five-match losing streak in the Premier League that cost former manager Liam Rosenior his job but they can kick-start their final month of action this season with a victory in the semi-final, and the return of a pair of key attackers could be just what interim boss McFarlane needs to get his side back on track.
Joao Pedro has missed Chelsea's two most recent matches with a thigh injury while Palmer was absent for the Blues' 3-0 loss to Brighton last weekend due to an injured hamstring. McFarlane revealed on Friday that both players participated in training and will be further assessed ahead of Sunday's cup match.
"With Joao and Cole, they both trained today and are in a good place," McFarlane said. "We don’t know yet [whether they can feature on Sunday], but we have another day tomorrow to have a look at them and then make a call on them.
"But we hope so, but it’s important we give them time. We are going to train tomorrow, they will both be involved and we will make a call on them after that session."
The Blues have slipped to eighth place in the Premier League standings due to their untimely losing skid, and the FA Cup is their last chance at a trophy this season.
