With the end of the season inching nearer, rumours of Erik ten Hag's departure from Manchester United grow louder.

The Red Devils' season has been one to forget for the manager, who led the team to a group-stage exit in the Champions League and their current sixth-place position in the Premier League standings.

United have one possible silver lining to their campaign as they have advanced to the FA Cup final next month, when they'll take on rivals Manchester City for the coveted trophy.

While a cup victory over City would surely provide a much-needed morale boost to the United fan base, an FA Cup winner from the 1980s doesn't believe a win will be enough to save Ten Hag's job at Old Trafford.

Speaking to Paddy Power, Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson gave his assement of Ten Hag's tenure at United and the Dutch manager's future prospects with the club.

“I think regardless of the result in the FA Cup Final, Erik ten Hag will leave Manchester United because they stumble through games," Lawrenson said. "There doesn’t seem to be any shape to the team, and I know they’ve got quite a few injuries, but everyone has that, and I’m just not convinced the manager has got everyone’s attention.

“You watch United, and the performances are very ad hoc. The number of goals and shots they concede is alarming. You’ve got to look at it and think that it’s not good enough, so regardless of the result, I think Ten Hag will be back in Holland come the summer.”
