Is football coming home? Warren and Hearn share their thoughts on England's World Cup chances
The 2026 World Cup is set to get underway this week as the biggest prize in international football is contested by the world’s best teams and players.
England head into the tournament as one of the major favourites and with the experienced Thomas Tuchel at the helm, English supporters will be hoping they can turn recent near misses into glory on the grandest stage in America.
Before the competition got underway, Tuchel came under some minor criticism for his squad selection as huge names like Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, and Trent Alexander-Arnold were all left out of his final 26-man squad.
Despite those omissions, the country is behind Tuchel, and it’s just not people from the world of football who are excited over what might transpire over the next six weeks.

Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn are promotional rivals in the boxing game, but both are in agreement that England can do well when they kick off their world cup campaign against Croatia on June 17.
Both promoters, veterans in the boxing world, have enjoyed a brilliant 2026 so far and their year could get even better when they face off later this year when each man will be in the opposite corner of Tyson Fury’s huge fight with Anthony Joshua.
As well as that, talks are also progressing nicely regarding another Queensberry vs Matchroom event at the end of the year that could see a monstrous card pitting seven of Warren’s fighters against seven of Hearn’s.
But before that all goes down, the pair are united on their hopes for England this summer and each man is confident football can finally come home.
“We’ll be out in New York for the Boots vs Zayas on the same England play Panama,” said Hearn when speaking to DAZN News .
“I’m hoping they can go very far in the competition so I can make it to another match. 60 years of hurt never stopped me dreaming. Come on England.
Warren added, “I think England have a magnificent chance of winning the World Cup. They have a good squad. It’s evenly balanced and we have some good players in there. I hope Harry Kane can cap his magnificent career off by being the standout player of the tournament.
“I’m hoping Bukayo Saka from my team will turn it on like he has done in crucial games. This is going to be a moment in time, and it can be the first time since 1966 we can come home with the prize. Come on England. We can do it.”
