The Champions League resumed this week, and with it, plenty of talking points across two nights of play-off action.
Premier League interest focused on Newcastle and what looked like a tricky trip to Azerbaijan to face one of the league phase's surprise packages in Qarabag.
However, Eddie Howe's side put in one of the best displays of the competition, blowing away the hosts with a 6-1 thrashing. The star of the show was Anthony Gordon, who became only the second player in Champions League history to net FOUR first-half goals.
It took the Magpies winger's total to 10 in Europe this season, becoming the club's all-time leading Champions League goalscorer and etching his name alongside some famous English names who have netted a hat-trick (or more) in the competition.
The first-ever English player to net a treble in the Champions League came in December 1995 as Blackburn Rovers hitman Mike Newell hit three goals in just nine minutes against Norwegian side Rosenborg. His feat remained the fastest hat-trick in the competition's history until Bafétimbi Gomis of Lyon bettered it in 2011.
Of the stellar names who have also achieved the feat, only Andy Cole, Michael Owen and Harry Kane have done it on more than one occasion.
*Scored four goals on the night.
