Liverpool kept pace with league leaders Arsenal after defeating a spirited Sheffield United on Wednesday.

The Reds were 0-2 winners at Bramall Lane, keeping them within two points of the Gunners in the Premier League title race. Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai scored on either side of halftime to secure the three points for Liverpool, but they ran into some resistance from a Blades side desperate for points.

Despite the effort from the home side, Jurgen Klopp was pleased with his team's fortitude in dealing with the adversity and claiming the three points.

"Really happy," the Liverpool manager told BBC Match of the Day. "It was a very mature and resilient performance - when it got exciting for them (Sheffield United), it was our fault but everybody was mostly really concentrated and focused.

"We didn’t let the atmosphere really happen, I think everyone was really ready to go for it and we calmed that down."

While the Reds came away with a two-goal win on Wednesday, Klopp explained that he would've been satisfied with a narrower margin of victory given the way the match played out.

"The first goal was a great goal and the second goal was outstanding - we would have loved to have ended it earlier but it was a nice recovery from Darwin [Nunez] and a super pass," he said.

"I would have taken 1-0 as it was nervy, each throw-in was the most dangerous situation, it was really difficult to defend but we came through that. We take the three points and keep going, recover and go again."
