On a day when two other Premier League sides fell to lower-division opposition in the fifth round of the FA Cup, Leeds United were determined not to make it three.
Leeds ensured that the Elland Road faithful went home happy — and without a nervy end to the match — with a dominant 3-0 victory over visiting Norwich City on Sunday, qualifying for the quarter-finals of the tournament in the process.
They did so while making several changes to the starting line-up, something that Leeds boss Daniel Farke admitted was a risky proposition against a red-hot Norwich side.
"We were the favourites today but you only have to look at what happened elsewhere," Farke told TNT Sports. "Teams around us in the [Premier League] table rotated today and went out.
"I can't complain at all. Important minutes in the tank for some players and able to rest others.
"Sometimes it is OK if you have two or three changes to a team with core bones. If you rotate in nine positions you need time. We deserved to be 2-0 up [at half-time].
"Second half the game-management could at times have been better but, in general, we didn't allow many chances."
While there is a big gap between Leeds, who are currently 15th in the Premier League, and 17th-place EFL Championship side Norwich, Farke still believes Sunday's win over the Canaries was a good one for his team.
Leeds have lost back-to-back league matches and welcome a good performance regardless of the opposition, he said.
"It was an important win for us," Farke explained. "A win is always good for the confidence. The spirit in the group, everyone keeps going. Today some players had the chance to shine and it is important for us as a group.
"Apart from us just seven other teams can win the FA Cup. It is maybe not realistic for us. We are on a good path and we are looking forward to our upcoming games and important weeks for us."
