The final 2019-20 UEFA Champions League quarterfinal presents a mismatch at first glance, but not everything is as it seems.

Manchester City and Lyon have met twice in UCL play over the years, with the French club holding a slight advantage with one win and a draw. It's a bit of a conundrum as City has never faced a team in the continental championship twice and not come away with at least one victory.

Regardless, City should still be considered the favourite. Besides being the richer club — by a considerable margin — City stormed its way through the group stage and easily dispatched Real Madrid in the Round of 16. The Sky Blues also put together another spectacular domestic campaign, scoring over 100 goals in a second-place finish.

By contrast, Lyon placed seventh in the truncated Ligue 1 season and wasn't convincing in the UCL group stage or Round of 16 (despite knocking out Juventus on aggregate). Rudi Garcia's men have scraped and clawed their way through 2019-20, and to their credit they've made it this far. 

One just has to wonder if this is the final step for Lyon or if City will suffer yet another European failure.
