Manchester City advanced to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a 3-1 come-from-behind victory over Newcastle United that Pep Guardiola says is the "best performance" from the Sky Blues at St. James' Park during his decade in charge of the club.
Man City were forced to climb back into Saturday's match after an 18th-minute opening goal from the hosts, with Savinho pulling the visitors level in the 39th minute before a second-half brace from Omar Marmoush sealed the victory.
It was a particularly pleasing outcome for Guardiola, who named Jeremy Doku and goal-scorers Savinho and Marmoush as standout performers in a venue that has given the Sky Blues trouble over the years.
"They were so decisive," the Man City manager told TNT Sports."This was the best performance I have seen from us in this stadium during our time together here. Really, really good.
"We played really, really good. It was important to score in the first minute of the second half. After that until the end was really good - the defending and the midfield, in general - everyone.
"Happy for Omar, a fantastic second goal. To beat Newcastle you have to perform very well, especially in the FA Cup."
Marmoush echoed his manager's thoughts, hailing the team's ability to come back from a poor start and take over against a tough Newcastle side.
"We didn't start so well and we conceded, but we showed that mentality and passion on the pitch, but we are happy to go to the next round," Marmoush told TNT Sports.
"I am very happy to help the team with the goals, and we will keep going.
"I don't know what the secret is, but I am happy to help the team again."
