DAZN's 2025-26 winners: Premier League signing of the season

With the end of the season on the horizon, the time has come to reflect on what has been another thrilling Premier League campaign and acknowledge this term's best performers.

DAZN News is looking back over the season and handing out our own awards in a selection of the traditional end-of-season categories.

We have already selected our Team of the Season, Young Player of the Season, and Manager of the Season, but now we have chosen our signing of the season.

While it was tough to choose an overall winner, one man's impact on his club has left him as the standout winner.

Runners-Up

Hugo Ekitike (Liverpool)

Liverpool's summer signings have quite rightly been slammed this season, but there is one man who can hold his head high: Hugo Ekitike.

The Reds spent substantially in the summer as they strived to retain their Premier League title, and in truth, they have been some way off delivering that.

However, Ekitike has emerged from the rubble of Anfield as a burning red light, scoring 11 in the league, while it could have been more if his campaign had not ended prematurely due to a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Rayan Cherki (Manchester City)

Manchester City's wizard Rayan Cherki has excelled as the Premier League season has progressed, becoming one of the division's greatest performers.

While Pep Guardiola has not always approved of his trickery, it would be hard to argue against him being the most gifted baller in the division.

His 12 league assists rank him behind only Bruno Fernandes, which is some achievement considering he has only started 19 of his 31 appearances.

Joao Pedro (Chelsea)

When Chelsea signed Joao Pedro from Brighton, there were doubts over his scoring ability, having only notched five goals from open play the previous season.

However, in what has been a forgettable campaign for the Blues, the forward has excelled at Stamford Bridge, replacing Cole Palmer as their talisman.

Pedro has scored 15 league goals and counting, while he has also produced five assists, establishing himself as a unique forward in the Premier League.

And the winner is...

Granit Xhaka (Sunderland)

Yes, Granit Xhaka may not fall into the flashy category, but if it were not for him, then Sunderland would not be on the cusp of a European finish for the first time since 1974.

Many were stunned when Switzerland's captain signed for the Black Cats from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, but he has believed in the club's project and elevated its players.

When Regis Le Bris' lynchpin is absent, it is evident, and if you consider his overall impact on the team, then no signing has had greater influence than Xhaka.
