Retired Premier League manager says you 'need a crystal ball' to predict 2024-25 title race

Roy Hodgson is not going to predict a winner in the upcoming Premier League season.

Liverpool and Manchester City have won the last eight league titles between them, with Arsenal finishing as runners-up in each of the least three seasons, indicating a stratification of the clubs at the top of the table. Throw in the likes of Chelsea, Aston Villa and Newcastle United and a potential bounce-back by traditional powers like Manchester United and Tottenham, and the impending season looks as competitive as ever.

This is why Hodgson is hesitant to make any predictions for the upcoming campaign. The former Liverpool, Inter Milan and England manager believes the league has become more competitive in recent years, making any predictions a fool's game.

“You would really need a crystal ball to say which of these top five or six teams are going to have a successful season," Hodgson told Hajper .

"What really struck me last season was teams just below the top — like Brighton, Brentford, Fulham, Palace, Nottingham Forest — they all pushed incredibly hard.

"That tightening means it’s not just a race between the usual three. But how teams start, how new players settle, and how injuries unfold… no one can predict that.

"Football isn’t a science — it’s a game.”
