'It was pressure for them' - PSG manager Luis Enrique on Arsenal Champions League final tactics
Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique was not surprised by Arsenal's tactics in Saturday's Champions League final.
Enrique steered his side to a second successive Champions League title after PSG came back from 1-0 down to draw 1-1 with the Gunners after extra time, and win 4-3 on penalties.
Arsenal took the lead in the sixth minute through Kai Havertz, and as expected, Arteta's players adopted a defensive approach with the aim to soak up the pressure from PSG to see out the match.
While PSG did get frustrated in the first half, they were much improved in the second half and during extra time, with the clearer chances being made by the Ligue 1 champions before winning the penalty shootout.
Enrique reacts to Arsenal's defensive tactics
Amidst all the celebrations after the trophy lift, Enrique spoke to TNT Sports and called Arsenal's early goal as "a lucky action".
"The match started in the best way for them; they scored a lucky action," Enrique said.
Then came the Spaniard's thoughts on Arsenal's defensive mindset after Havertz's strike.
"After that, it was pressure for them because they know how to defend, it was very tough.
"We are used to attacking in that way, with a lot of players behind the ball, but against them, they are strong physically."
While Arsenal's defensive display has to be commended, the lack of attacking threat may have been their undoing.
After 120 minutes, Arsenal could only muster 7 shots, with one on target, while PSG produced 21 shots with four on target. The French side also had a superior xG with 1.77 compared to Arsenal's 0.44.
PSG were also the more ambitious side going forward with 43 touches in the opposition box, while Arsenal had significantly less with just 14.
