Wow, just wow. The National League yet again delivered scintillating drama on a scorching hot final day of the regular season as York City secured promotion to the Football League thanks to a 103rd-minute equaliser against Rochdale, beating the hosts to the title and the single automatic promotion spot.
You simply could not write it, as the two top clubs - with York two points ahead - were scheduled to meet on the final day of the campaign, live and exclusive on DAZN - the home of the National League.
Just a week ago, Rochdale kept their automatic promotion hopes alive with a 99th-minute winner at Braintree, and they knew only another three points would be enough to finish first on their home ground.
Emmanuel Dieseruvwe looked to have done it again for Dale, with a 95th-minute bullet header that sparked wild celebrations and a pitch invasion from the home fans.
But once the pitch was cleared and play resumed, there was another twist in this remarkable story.
York were not to be denied again after promotion heartbreak last season, as Josh Stones fired the ball home on the 103rd-minute mark after the chaos of a goalmouth scramble.
To add to it all, his shot looked to have been successfully blocked on the line. However, referee Will Finnie, rightly, quickly awarded the goal, with replays showing the ball had crossed the line.
York will now play in League Two next season, returning to the Football League for the first time in 22 years, while Rochdale now must fight through the play-offs to gain promotion themselves.
