The football season is approaching the stage where everyone starts to look back at the campaign, and who could be in line for individual awards come the end of term.

Over in Serie A, it's Inter who lead the way thanks to the goalscoring exploits of Lautaro Martinez, who looks set to fire the Nerazzurri to regaining the Scudetto in 2026.

However, it's not a name from the San Siro that has impressed a man who's spent a lot of time watching Italy's top flight this season, and who once played in the country during its 1990s heyday.

Tony Dorigo spent a season at Torino during the halcyon days of Football Italia, but now spends time covering the league as part of a broadcasting role.

Having seen all that 2025-26 has to offer in Serie A, Dorigo, speaking exclusively to DAZN News, thanks to betting odds, picked out one of the league's rising stars as his standout name of the campaign.

He said, "Nico Paz, I look at him, and wow, he has got some ability, a wonderful left foot.

"I wasn't sure after he came in from Real Madrid and what would happen, but he's a player who, I admire a lot.

"I love the way Como play. I think Fabregas has got a great style, and Paz is key to that, but there are other players in there now.  Baturina, who's just come in, for instance who looks extremely good, too."

Paz may well lead Como to a first-ever Champions League placing this season, but he's not the only one to have caught Dorigo's eye.

A self-confessed fan of Gian Piero Gasperini, the former England left-back admits he was looking forward to seeing what he'd do at Roma this season, but it became obvious something was missing in attack for Gasperini's side.

However, following a clever acquisition in January, Dorigo thinks it could take Roma to the next level and a top-four placing.

"I love a Gasparini side," he added.

"I go back to the Atalanta and the way they played, and I used to love commenting on their games.

"At Roma, I think he was hamstrung certainly in the first half by clearly a few injuries,  but also, you know, is it Ferguson? Is it Dybala? Is it either of them? No, I don't trust any of those. And then trying to do a false nine.

"He was going through all this stuff.  And now with Donyell Malen, you've suddenly got a player who's running the channels, pulling defences here, there, everywhere, allowing others to get into space.

"Malen, that signing in January, I think that's been really key for Roma's game."
